Admission in the U.S. for Foreign lawyers, by Dena Falken

Many potential LL.M students ask if they need to take the bar or can they practice after graduation with a Foreign law degree

Foreign-trained lawyers can gain admission to the bar in 34 other jurisdictions as well, all with varying rules.

In almost all cases, the ABA must first review and approve your foreign law degree. This can take a year or more.

Message from University of San Diego LL.M program

Dear Fall 2020  LLMMSLS, and Semester Exchange Candidates,

I hope this message finds you well. We very much look forward to welcoming you to USD this Fall!

As you are probably aware, many schools and universities have temporarily suspended live classes and migrated to a system of remote teaching. Some are also adapting their work practices and interactions during the COVID-19 crisis.

Please be assured that here at USD, we continue to be available to all graduate law students, regardless of academic program or country of residence. We are preparing for the Fall 2020 semester in full force and remain hopeful that COVID-19 will peak and subside within the next few months. To that end, we continue to work towards an uninterrupted Fall 2020 semester, while also making every effort to mitigate the risks of transmitting COVID-19.

In the interim, I recommend that you check USD's  COVID-19 website  on a regular basis and follow CDC and other official guidance about safe practices, including social distancing, self-isolation when appropriate, and diligent hand-washing.

If you have special concerns about TOEFL or IELTS test cancellations, deposit deadlines, visa processing, or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact me. We recognize that this unprecedented situation requires flexibility and compassion during this time of uncertainty and will accommodate you to the fullest extent possible. We look forward to seeing you soon and welcoming you to the Torero family!

Wishing you good health and safety,

Robynn Allveri
