We proudly bring together students, faculty and staff from all backgrounds to work and learn together.  As a result, our students are uniquely ready and able to address a wide spectrum of issues facing our diverse world.  Our professors are accessible and approachable, and foster an atmosphere of respect and collegiality.   The Moritz community is truly a family of scholars.

We are thrilled to make a special announcement.  We have added four NEW scholarships this year:

·          Scholarship for the Americas
·          Scholarship for Africa
·          Scholarship for Europe

University of Texas School of Law LL.M. Program

The University of Texas School of Law announces a new LL.M. concentration in Human Rights & Comparative Constitutional Law

This new and innovative concentration will provide students with a robust, critical, and comparative foundation in both human rights and constitutional law. It will also offer students a comprehensive understanding of contemporary human rights practices, including uses of constitutional law, in both domestic and international settings.

The concentration is offered in cooperation with the law school's Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice. The concentration builds on two strengths of the UT Law - its constitutional law faculty, often considered to be among the best in the country, and the internationally recognized Rapoport Center, which serves as a focal point at the University for critical, interdisciplinary analysis and practice of human rights and social justice. The Rapoport Center includes more than100 affiliated faculty from across campus and collaborates closely with a number of other acclaimed centers.

Each student may design an individual course of study tailored to his or her academic and professional interests, taking advantage of extensive curricular and clinical offerings, devoted inter-disciplinary faculty, and ongoing research projects and working groups at the Rapoport Center.

Texas Tech LL.M. Program

Texas Tech University School of Law recently invited its LL.M. students to attend the Lubbock Area Bar Association meeting where students had the opportunity to network with local attorneys and legal professionals. LL.M. candidates then had the opportunity to hear from Representative Tryon Lewis from the Texas House of Representatives, who discussed the current state of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Texas and forthcoming legislative changes to the Alternative Dispute Resolution structure in Texas.

This is just one of the many ways that Texas Tech Law strives to enrich the academic experiences or our LL.M. students and provide students with opportunities to interact with American lawyers and judges.”

International student Otiotio shares his perspective on the LLM Program at University of Tulsa

  1. How did you hear about TU? How did you decide to go here for your LLM?
I heard about TU from the LSAC. I actually applied for admission to four Law Schools through LSAC, and was offered admission by all, but I chose TU because of the energy law concentration program.
  2. As an international law student, how were you received by the TU community?  What was one thing you had to get used to when you first arrived?
The faculty and students of the College of Law were amazing. I was warmly received in the University community, and I felt like I have been at TU for a long time. As an international student I had to get used to the weather, and I had to read about the US legal system, and research method to enable me follow what is been taught in class.
  3. What is your opinion of the faculty at TU?
I have a very high opinion about the faculty at TU College of Law. They are accomplished, internationally recognized scholars and professionals who dedicate their time to preparing students for an outstanding legal career. They had a good rapport with the students and are always available to attend to students.
  4. What kind of energy-related classes did you take at TU? How did they influence you/your legal education?
I took Basic Oil and Gas Law, Advance Oil and Gas Law, International Energy Law, Water Law, and International Environmental Law. These courses have prepared me to have a specialized knowledge on complex legal issues relating to energy around the world.  I now have a concrete understanding of the theory, practice and advocacy of global energy and environmental law issues.
  5. What are your professional aspirations now that you have your TU LLM?
I intend to further my education by doing a PHD or SJD in Energy Law.
  6. Is there anything else you want to say to prospective foreign LLMs interested in energy law at TU?
I will recommend the program to any student who is interested in energy law. But prospective foreign students should know that even though they are lawyers, they are attending school in a different jurisdiction with a different legal system. Therefore they should be ready to adapt to the new system and learn from the faculty as well as other students. In that way they are bound to succeed. It is very important for students to prepare ahead of class so as to fully participate in class.

University of North Carolina LL.M. Program

LL.M. at UNC from UNC School of Law on Vimeo.
The one-year Master of Laws degree, LL.M., is for foreign lawyers who have already received a primary law degree from universities in their home countries. The LL.M. Program in United States Law offers international lawyers the opportunity to develop mastery of key areas of American law in one of the nation's top law schools.
The program builds on the school's existing international program, which includes exchange, study abroad and visiting scholar programs, and faculty expertise in the most pressing global legal issues. LL.M. students receive legal training in American law through the school's nationally recognized centers and areas of academic strength in legal fields that are in high demand throughout the world.
LL.M. students take most of their classes together with UNC law students, sharing their international perspective with and learning American law from UNC faculty and students. Legal areas in which LL.M. students may concentrate their law studies at UNC include:
  • Corporate and Commercial Law
  • Banking and Finance
  • Intellectual Property
  • Environmental Law
  • Health Care Law
  • Human Rights and Civil Rights Law
  • International and Comparative Law
  • Public Law and Regulation
In addition to the UNC law curriculum, LL.M. students may also receive instruction outside the law school, taking advantage of opportunities in other departments on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus. The LL.M. program encourages collaboration between its students and University faculty and students, particularly those in business school and international studies.

Texas Tech University Team Building Trip

Texas Tech University School of Law LLM’s recently participated in a day-long team-building trip on which they visited two iconic West Texas attractions and a major West Texas law firm involved in international trade relations. The students first visited nearby Palo Duro Canyon, which is the second largest canyon in the U.S. and often referred to as “The Grand Canyon of Texas.” The students then had an opportunity to visit the Cadillac Ranch, one of the most famous pop culture monuments located along the famous Route 66, often referred to as the “Main Street of America.” While at the Cadillac Ranch, students participated in the ongoing tradition of modifying the designs and colors of the display with their own unique designs using a can or two of spray paint. Finally, before going to dinner at The Big Texan, another popular Route 66 destination, LL.M. students were treated to a guided tour of The Underwood Law Firm, P.C., a 101 year old law firm in Amarillo, TX. There they met attorneys and shareholders, Tom Morris and Alan Rhodes, who provided several short talks on their careers and the history of the law firm and its international work. Among other things, Mr. Morris talked about his U.S. Supreme Court argument in the landmark case of Graham v. Deere in 1966, which involved patent disputes.

This is just one of the many ways that Texas Tech Law strives to make its LL.M. students’ experiences memorable, educational, and distinct.

Admiralty and Maritime L.L.M Program

Charleston, South Carolina is a high-volume, expanding port and a world-class resort city.  The past two years, Condé Nast Traveler rated Charleston the number one city for travelers in the U.S.  The Charleston School of Law is located in the historic peninsula of the city within view of eighteenth-century church spires and the busy waterfront.  By combining both historic preservation and vital maritime commerce, Charleston is the perfect place for a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in admiralty and maritime law.

The admiralty and maritime law LL.M. program at the Charleston School of Law enrolled its first class in the fall of 2013.  The primary objective of the program is to bring students together with the most experienced practitioners, judges, and professors who possess a broad range of admiralty law specialties, and with the non-lawyer maritime professionals who make the port of Charleston such a success.
