LL.M. students may choose to personalize their course programs to specialize in a particular area of law, such as Business Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Environmental and Natural Resources Law, Health Care Law and Bioethics, Human Rights and Social Justice Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Law, Public Interest Law and more.

Orientation in U.S.A. Law Program for Pre-LL.M.s

We encourage you to participate in our Orientation in U.S.A. Law program. Designed for both working professionals and incoming LL.M. students, this program helps you to get settled into Davis and learn about American culture as you practice your legal English, learn an overview of U.S. Law, and participate in LL.M. preparation workshops—all before the academic year starts. More than half of our LL.M. students participate in this program each year, and they find it immensely valuable.

We accept applications throughout the year and encourage applicants to submit by January 10.

Georgia State LLM Cirriculum

LL.M. Curriculum and Program Tracks

Georgia State Law’s LL.M. Program for Foreign-Trained Lawyers builds on our J.D. program, which has achieved national distinction in a relatively short time.
LL.M. graduates will be well equipped to assume leadership positions in their legal institutions, including law firms with an international practice, the judiciary and government, and in law faculties and those of related disciplines in their home countries. Our program will help you achieve this through:
  • teaching you the skills essential to practicing American law
  • enhancing how you counsel clients when negotiating with U.S. businesses and entities
  • offering you internship interaction with U.S. lawyers
  • facilitating a means to create your global network of contacts
  • providing opportunities to refine and validate your English language skills
The LL.M. program has two tracks:
  • FLEXIBLE STUDIES (Track 1) enables students to customize their study and concentrate in particular areas, such as intellectual property, health law, land use and urban growth, conflict resolution and others, or to personalize their studies.
  • BAR PREPARATION (Track 2) allows students to focus on the requirements necessary to sit for a bar exam in a qualifying state, such as Georgia or New York. Georgia now allows foreign-trained lawyers to sit for its exam after completing a bar-focused LL.M. curriculum.
Both tracks include skills-training options.
Full-time LL.M. students must complete the program in nine months.
The LL.M. program director must approve each LL.M. student’s course schedule in advance. No exceptions.

Louisiana State University Honors LLMs Past and Present, Including Prof. Pascal, now in his 100th Year

Honoring LLMs Past and Present, Including Prof. Pascal, now in his 100th Year
On Wednesday, October 1st 2014, the Center of Civil Law Studies hosted its annual Wine and Cheese Reception to welcome the new LL.M. class of 2014–2015 and introduce them to faculty members,  former LL.M.s, student-members of the International Law Society, Graduate Editors of the Journal of Civil Law Studies, LSU staff members, and representatives of supporting organizations.

This year was a very special event, honoring LSU’s first and oldest Master’s program graduate, Professor Emeritus Robert Pascal, now in his 100th year, who received a M.C.L. (Master in Civil Law) 75 years ago.

Professor Olivier Moréteau congratulated him for over 75 years of diligent and productive scholarly study of the civil law and comparative law. Prof. Pascal published his first article in the Louisiana Law Review, volume 1, in 1938, and his latest in volume 70, in 2008.

Some of his best articles can be read in Robert Anthony Pascal: A Priest of Right Order (O. Moreteau, ed. 2010), which includes a so-far unpublished Recollection of a Life Studying and Teaching Law

He taught several generations of law students in Baton Rouge, Rome and Paris, until his retirement in 1980. Participants, including LL.M.s of more recent years, expressed their love and admiration.
This was a great occasion for present LL.M. candidates to meet interesting people and to discuss further their background around a glass of wine, escaping the rigors of the academic program for a couple of hours.

The LL.M. team would like to thank faculty members, staff, and students who attended the event.

Current and Previous LLM's

George Hardy, Graduate Editor of the Journal of Civil Law Studies, with Prof. Emeritus Robert Pascal

The promising equation of motivated law students brandishing impressive résumés and employers happy to offer them on the job training will work its magic again September 23, 2014 for Catholic University Law School's [CUA] Fall externship fair. During the Fall Externship fair as well as the Spring Externship fair, numerous Washington D.C. area legal employers who set up tables  in CUA’s atrium, meet with students, answer their questions and assess their credentials for possible internships.
